Photonics Workshop
The AIP Education Committee organised a workshop for students doing the Unit 4 Detailed Studies: “Photonics” in late August, 2009. The workshop ran from about 3:00pm until 7:30pm. The Photonics workshop was held at the Clayton campus of Monash University. The program for the workshop included lectures and extensive hands on practical activities. For more details of the program and the activities, see the document under 'Classroom Activities' below. A pizza dinner was provided. There was no cost.
It has not yet been decided whether the event will be repeated in 2010.

IT Applications
Useful Websites
Semiconductor Educational applets
The web site Semiconductor Educational applets has an extensive range of applets covering many aspects of photonics. The applets have a tertiary emphasis but the basic ones are instructive and and they are all professional constructed.
Artificial Retina Project
The project is a collaborative, multi-institutional effort to develop an implantable microelectronic retinal device that restores useful vision to people blinded by retinal diseases. The website contains a description of how the artifial retina works. There is a video available and links to PBS Scientific American Frontiers which cntaisn audio and video material as well as transcripts.
