Just in Time is an after-school online program which ran last year and this year. It was a weekly program on a Thursday during Semester 1,.
Two teachers, Kathryn Grainger and Dr Penny Hale from John Monash Science School, shared their plans for the week, starting 10 days ahead. The PD was for teachers teaching Unit 3 for the first time or those seeking a refresher course. The one hour sessions started at 3:45pm followed by 15 mins for questions from participants. The online sessions were from a studio at John Monash Science School, so participants were able to see demonstrations and other practical activities.
Funding was not available to continue the program in this way in Semester 2 on Unit 4 content.
Instead VicPhysics is offering a series of one hour Zoom sessions on Thursdays in Term 3 starting at 5:00pm. These are free.
The Term 3 topic schedule is:
- Week 1: Light as a wave
- Week 2: Light as a particle
- Week 3: Matter as particle or waves
- Week 4: Special relativity: postulates, MM Expt, time dilation, length contraction
- Week 5: Special relativity: Energy – mass relationship
- Week 6: Practical Investigation: topic selection, planning
- Week 7: Practical Investigation: data analysis and assessment
In each session, one or two presenters will cover:
- teaching sequence
- common misconceptions or conceptual difficulties
- demos and practical activities
- AV and simulation resources
